Much to be Thankful For

After another full day of cooking for Thanksgiving dinner, my mind is awash with food coma as the tryptophan kicks in.. (which may or may not be a myth?) I finally get some time to sit down and reflect on how fortunate I am for what I have and all the people around me.

The Dawning of the Age of Aquarius

When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the
stars

Elections

Indeed, it has once again been too long since i've updated, but i felt that this was very much worth documenting. Thus, i am on the internet right now instead of writing my lab report..

After an anxiety-filled three weeks of waiting after i registered to vote, I finally received my absentee ballot yesterday!
After looking thru the two HUGE pages (both front and back), I noticed something very peculiar under the presidential candidates...
The "Boston Tea" is a political party???
Other than that, the rest of the ballot was pretty straightforward. I am very excited to send this off though. Horray for voting! (and make sure you do the same!)

Countdown

I sit here today looking ahead at the last week of summer, and last two weeks of teenage-hood.

Kinda makes me wanna run outside going wild for one last huzzah.

Lessons from Research

As I sit at my desk in the Ameer Lab graduate student office for the last time this summer, I look back on some confusion-filled yet amazing weeks. Asides from the crash-course in orgo + bio while on the run, i've tried to summarize some of the lessons i've learned from my brief dip into the world of research:
  • Good results/data are very hard to come by (and are definitely good reasons for celebration when they do)
  • The more you learn, the more you feel like you know nothing. (especially true when starting in a completely new and foreign field)
  • Key help can sometimes appear in unexpected places
  • Never pass anything non-sterile over something sterile (well, maybe more useful for tissue culture...)
lastly, but definitely most importantly
  • Life is too short to always be annoyed by the little things
